Current development.
Goalbit has incorporated recent innovations of the video and P2P community, such as H.264 support, KAD and P4P methods for traffic optimization. Developing time is being invested in new features, such as Video-On-Demand, encryption and authentication, with the latter to have a first version.
Video-On-Demand
Nowadays Video-On-Demand is available in the Goalbit suite through protocols such as http, mms and progressive download. With the incorporation of the Goalbit protocol to Video-On-Demand a more efficent streaming will be provided to the final user. The usage of resources and performance of the servers will be maximized when using a P2P-based protocol that auto-configures the file transfers inside the CDN, which leads to direct benefits to their owner.
Encryption and authentication
Recently the Live Broadcast Yourself functionality allows to encrypt the chunks using a shared key. Further functionalities will allow chunk signing (for identity verification) and a rotative encryption key system. Combining them with authentication, autorization and geolocalization functionalities available at traditional streaming servers a full-featured DRM system is provided.
Kademlia
With Kademlia peers in a Goalbit network lack the need of a Tracker for discovering other peers connected to a broadcast. They also lack the need of transfering through other ways a .goalbit file, they just need to know a goalbit:// link to start streaming a channel.
The implementation of Kademlia in Goalbit is an adaptation of the open-source library KadC (http://kadc.sourceforge.net/).
H.264 MPEG-4 video compression standard
This codec is popular nowadays for its use in Blu-ray discs, HD-DVDs and in ITunes videos. The incorporation to Goalbit is due to its incorporation in the VLC media player and the migration of the VLC code included in Goalbit to the latest version, and some specific adjustments .
P4P traffic optimization
P4P is the application of methods to improve the traffic between nodes of a P2P network so as to influence in the ammount of traffic of certain links of it. The Tracker has recently incorporated a metaheuristic method to reduce the traffic between inter-domain links of the network formed by the connected peers.
